East Coast Defender’s Project Kingsman Breathes New Life Into Defender 110 Chassis

KISSIMMEE, FLA. – Aug. 24, 2017– East Coast Defender has breathed new life into another Defender 110 with its latest award-winning build, “Project Kingsman”. The luxury SUV, which was designed and built at the Rover Dome in Kissimmee, Florida, was completed earlier this month and has been rebuilt from the ground up and features a brand new, galvanized chassis.

“The original steel frames of the Defenders were true workhorses and offered the ultimate in off-road, go-anywhere, do-anything driving,” said Scott Wallace, East Coast Defender Co-Owner. “Our team has been able to improve their durability using an upgraded, galvanized chassis. ‘Project Kingsman’ is built on a new chassis that has been dipped in molten protective zinc coating. This holds off corrosion and increases the life of the frame. It also keeps the nostalgia of the vehicle intact, while bringing it up to today’s highest performance standards.”

“Project Kingsman” showcases the classy and refined look of the Defender, yet has been rebuilt to be more powerful and agile than its original OEM build. It’s built on a new galvanized chassis, which will prevent the frame from rusting and increase the Defender’s longevity and durability. During the rebuild no nut or bolt was left untouched. It has also been upfitted with the latest technology and performance equipment.

“Our Defenders not only offer incomparable workmanship, but deliver on reliability as well,” said Tom Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “By stripping each Defender down to its frame, we’re not only able to customize and upgrade each component as its rebuilt, but incorporate the latest technology and processes to build a stronger, more robust Defender. We not only offer luxury and performance with each build, but reliability and peace of mind for our clients, as well.”

Work on “Project Kingsman” began July 2016 and was completed on August 15, 2017. “The high level of attention to detail on each of our Defenders is simply unmatched,” said Elliot Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “From the initial phases of planning the vehicle with the client, through the build and delivery, our team offers a remarkable buying and owning experience. I believe it speaks volumes about why East Coast Defender vehicles are so popular and continue to increase in value over time.”

Project Spotlight: Project Indus

All of our projects carry a certain prestige. At East Coast Defender, we take quality and innovation very seriously. Our offerings are far beyond just Land Rover Defenders for sale; we offer a one-of-a-kind Defender building experience. We are a boutique outlet driven to produce exceptional luxury truck modifications that are unlike anything you’ve seen before.

With that all said, some builds reach an elite level and represent that perfection we always strive for. They become, even after they leave our facility, unforgettable. Project Indus was one such build.

Indus was a unique build because of the versatility that we incorporated in its design. With an open-air back tub, a convertible soft top, and a world-class front grille, it’s more than capable in any off-road environment. It’s a playful Defender, good for a day at the beach or a jaunt down some backroads. But we also inserted some sleek design into the outward appearance, and, because of this, Project Indus fits just as seamlessly in front of a sprawling mansion as it does an off-road trail.

That versatility is at the core of the Land Rover Defender; it’s a key aspect to its decades-long longevity and hold on the public imagination. We didn’t overwhelm and obscure that history in building Indus; we just took it to the next level.

Some other features are pretty eye-popping as well:

  • A new Chevy LS3 engine, powerful and easy to handle with a six-speed automatic transmission.
  • High performance LED lighting for any off-road situation. We bring a level of illumination unheard of with common Defenders.
  • Sleek black leather interior with hand-crafted Corbeau racing seats
  • 18” inch Sawtooth wheels loaded onto BF Goodrich tires, and in case one get’s a little with their off-road adventures: an ARB front bumper with WARN winch.
  • Modern electronics to the extreme: a touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth as well as world-class JBL speakers throughout.

If you are looking for a Land Rover Defender for sale and you want to fully customize the build, we are ready to hear from you. We’re driven by what our clients can think up, and we are seeking a challenge constantly. If you feel the same ambition, contact us today. “Project Blackout” Showcase

EAST COAST DEFENDER’S “PROJECT BLACKOUT” SHOWCASES THE BALANCED POWER OF LC9 SMALL-BLOCK ENGINE

East Coast Defender’s recent “Project Blackout” showcases the balanced power of the LC9 small-block engine wrapped inside a beautifully handcrafted, black-on-black Defender 90. Known for its excellent handling and acceleration, the 5.3L engine is a smart option for drivers who want the convenience of owning a daily driver, as well as a weekend warrior at the beach.

“‘Project Blackout’ is the perfect example of our team’s ability to build a Defender tailored to the specific needs of the owner,” said Scott Wallace, East Coast Defender Co-Owner. “The owner of this ECD Defender, asked us to build an SUV that is equally at home on the road, as it is during a long weekend at the beach. Naturally, the LC9 engine was the perfect engine option because it delivers balanced power without sacrificing efficiency.”
“Project Blackout” started out as a 1987 Defender 90, which was located by ECD co-founder Elliot Humble near Norfolk County in England. Project Blackout’s build began in June 2016 and rolled out of The Rover Dome on June 29, 2017.

“GM originally built the LC9 engine for use in their large SUVs, such as the Suburban and Yukon models,” said Tom Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “It’s a powerful engine, offering exceptional performance with better fuel economy for everyday driving conditions, miles above what was put in the Defenders 25 years ago. With 326 available horsepower at her disposal, it was a perfect option giving the owner a broad, flat torque curve that’s perfect for everyday commuting.”

The black exterior with black interior is why this custom Defender was dubbed “Project Blackout”. It is finished in a classic black paint with black checkerplate accents and 18-inch black Sawtooth wheels. Inside the cabin are heated black leather Land Rover seats with black instrument panel and Momo leather wrapped steering wheel.

“We have an incredibly diverse client base who come to us from across the country,” said Elliot Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “I believe that speaks volumes about the broad appeal of our handcrafted Defenders. Like a finely tailored shirt, each SUV we build exudes the character and personality of its owner. ‘Project Blackout’ is an attractive vehicle that’s a stunning extension of its new owner.”

Project Blackout performance specs include:

  • 5.3-liter, 326-hp Chevrolet LC9 V-8 engine
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Stainless steel fuel and brake lines
  • Borla Exhaust
  • EBC Performance brakes
  • Ron Davis aluminum radiator

Project Blackout interior and convenience specs include:

“Honey Badger” Showcase

“Honey Badger” Showcases East Coast Defender’s New, Powerful LS3 Manual Transmission Option

East Coast Defender has once again set the standard for custom Defender builds with its latest project, “Honey Badger,” a handcrafted Defender 90 featuring a powerful LS3 V-8 engine with a new manual transmission option. Built to withstand rugged, off-road abuse, the Honey Badger’s six-speed manual transmission is the most capable available and reflects the high-quality craftsmanship and engineering prowess of the ECD team.

“Our team has earned a reputation for pushing the envelope with each custom Defender that rolls out of The Rover Dome,” said Scott Wallace, East Coast Defender Co-Owner. “The latest project, ‘Honey Badger’ is a testament to our commitment to building the most capable civilian SUV’s in the world. This new drivetrain option mated to a powerful LS3 V-8, makes it as competent on the rocks of Moab as it is the streets of Miami.”

Each East Coast Defender SUV is a pure, handcrafted vehicle. Like its namesake implies, this “Honey Badger” is an aggressive vehicle that’s incredibly tough and capable of taking on the harshest terrain.

“Land Rover initially offered the V-8 Defender with a four-speed manual transmission,” said Tom Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “The ‘Honey Badger’ commission was particularly exciting as it gave us a chance to build a D90 with a six-speed manual transmission hooked to a V-8, which gives the SUV some real bite. This is the ultimate salute to the origins of the Defender, but with a very contemporary edge.”

Each SUV is purpose-built to a client’s needs and specifications. This is the second Defender commissioned for this particular client, which speaks volumes about the design process and quality.

“The beauty of a manual transmission is the control that it gives a driver when navigating really difficult terrain,” said Elliot Humble, East Coast Defender Co-owner. “Serious off roaders want the ability to slowly work an SUV over rocks and loose gravel. Coupling the massive torque of the 6.2-liter V-8 to the six-speed manual will give the owner of Honey Badger the most flexible and engaging SUV possible for tough overland treks.”

Project Honey Badger performance specs include:

  • 6.2-liter, 430-hp Chevrolet LS3 V-8 engine
  • Six-speed Chevrolet T56 manual transmission
  • Upgraded transfer case with limited slip differential
  • Borla Exhaust
  • Ron Davis Radiator
  • Stainless brake and fuel lines

Project Honey Badger interior and convenience specs include:

  • Classic Instruments Moal Bomber gauges
  • Kenwood infotainment center with Backup camera and wifi
  • JBL speakers with subwoofer
  • Full LED lighting
  • Ivory leather Corbeau seats with black accent stitching
  • Quark steering wheel by MOMO

Project Honey Badger exterior and styling specs include:

  • Porsche Dunkelolive Metallic paint
  • 18-inchSawtooth wheels with BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 tires.
  • Full roll cage

Project Spotlight: The Huntress

The engine roars to life, the alligator-covered Corbeau seats press against the skin, and the stereo hums along. The Huntress truly awakens the senses, which is perfect for the renowned artist who commissioned this build, as she is known for her multi-sensory installations. The owner of the Huntress brought to life a build that combined her unique and artistic vision with the rugged practicality required for her ranch in Wyoming. Compared to other Land Rover Defenders for sale, the results are nothing short of stunning.

The Exterior

At first impression, the exterior of the Huntress is very important. This build is a unique D130 which makes a statement colored in dark green. The Huntress sits atop Boost 18” wheels with BFGoodrich tires and a two-inch lift kit. The practicality of the exterior is taken further with tinted Masai windows, a custom spare tire carrier, and a tubular winch bumper with a WARN winch that is bound to be put to use on that Wyoming ranch.

The Interior

It’s true; the interior of Huntress is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. First, let’s talk about aesthetic and comfort. The Huntress features Corbeau seats custom covered in chocolate-brown alligator hide. These hides have been locally sourced just miles from the Rover Dome. The rest of the leather accents throughout the interior are designed to compliment the front seats and create a kind of character you’ll never find in a factory-produced vehicle.

While much of the interior is timeless, the technology throughout is cutting-edge. We’ve installed modern conveniences not typically found in D130s including air conditioning and classic instrument gauges. We’ve overhauled the dash with a Puma upgrade and a touchscreen Kenwood infotainment system which includes Apple Car Play, GPS, Wi-Fi, and a backup camera. To top it off, we also included a custom Morel amplified speaker system and automatic lighting. There is no doubt that the owner of the Huntress will be riding in refined, bespoke style and comfort.

Under the Hood

The interior of this build is remarkable, but the power under the hoods elevates the Huntress even further. First, we installed a 6.2-liter, 430-hp Chevrolet LS3 V-8 engine. When your Defender goes from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, some additional hardware is needed to restrain that power. We installed Wilwood brakes with race calipers and vented and drilled rotors. A six-speed automatic transmission distributes all the power from the LS3. These modifications make this Defender ultra-reliable and a joy to drive.

The Huntress is just our latest custom-built Defender. To keep an eye out for new projects, or to view other Land Rover Defenders for sale, check out our available stock and project gallery. If you are interested in crafting your own custom build, contact us today.

Project Spotlight: Project Water Buffalo

WaterBuffDetailIn3 copyBuffalos are distinctive animals known for their power and ability to run when necessary. Just like bison, this Land Rover Defender always makes its presence known. This is one of our most unique builds in terms of body design compared to other Land Rover Defenders for sale. With a heavy-duty pickup truck bed combined with a still-lavish, all-leather front cab, Project Water Buffalo is perfect for taking your dogs and family to the beach in one clean run. We’ve equipped this vehicle perfectly for outdoor adventure:

  • A front runner roof rack with high-lift jack: This is a distinctive roof rack made for all of your gear. We’ve also creatively combined the rack with a custom light bar, ensuring your trail ahead is always brightly lit.
  • Rear structure roll cage: As mentioned, with an open-air back cab, it’s great for both gear and pets. One of the reasons is this innovative roll-cage that adds both safety and sturdiness to the overall build.
  • A snorkel: Buffalo regularly need to cross small streams and water, and so may you. Fear no path with this smooth mounted _JCS9541 copysystem that allows your engine to breath under an array of conditions.
  • Bonatti Grey paint color: This shade of grey is understated, but still a custom beauty.

Those are the accessories, but there’s no such thing as a water buffalo with no power. We covered that ground as well:

  • This muscle-heavy project was fitted with an upgraded Rover V8 fuel injected engine.
  • Five-speed manual transmission and a world-class custom dashboard makes this is a driver’s truck

But luxury wasn’t left out. Even though Project Water Buffalo has an open-air rear cab, it’s still a fully air-conditioned interior fitted with customized ceiling-mounted JBL speakers. A touch screen input device in between the front seat driver and passenger glows blue at all times, and everything is fitted with a fine leather upholstery that is all done directly on-site at the Rover Dome.

Project Water Buffalo is an example of just one direction you can take with your custom Land Rover Defender, but there are many. To learn more about the options and capabilities we put into our Land Rover Defenders for sale, contact us anytime at 407-483-4825 or info@eastcoastdefender.com.

Project Spotlight: The Outdoorsman

East Coast Defender prides itself on the innovative cutting-edge designs that we create on our iconic Land Rover Defenders for sale. Our builds are made with the individual driver in mind, and we hope to match a truck to a personality. That personality can range from those that enjoy the ultra-luxurious aspect of Defenders to those looking for a unique and rare vehicle. It also applies to those looking for something that fits in with an active outdoor lifestyle.

We took the outdoor concept to the highest point possible with the accessory-loaded and stunning Outdoorsman. Our projects try to stay true to their names, and this one might have gone the furthest with that notion:

outdoorsman2Built in Fly Fishing Rod Storage

Try finding this on your everyday sports utility vehicle. Fishing is made easy with the creative touch of ECD; with built-in rod storage, any pond or roadside river becomes a possible instant fishing hole.

G4 Expedition Roof Rack with Ladder

This is one the finest and most structurally strong roof racks we install on Defenders. The extra touch of a ladder is optional, but we’d recommend it and provided it for this exclusive project.

Fold Out Fish Cleaning Table

Again, this project was built for a true outdoorsman: someone who would need only the accessories of the truck to have a full day in the open spaces of the natural world. This is a classic and unique ECD design that folds up and packs away easily.

18” Sawtooth Wheels

If you’re going to go off-road and into the wild, you’re going to need the correct tires and rims. This build was equipped with epic 18” Sawtooth wheels and the best of BFGoodrich tires. Few off-road environments can stand in the way of a fully-equipped Land Rover Defender.

Beyond those ultra-unique touches, we even gave The Outdoorsman some more traditional edges for the active driver: EBC Performance braking, a powerful Chevrolet LS3 V-8 engine, and, just to help you blend in a little better into woods and swamps, a British Racing Green paint color. All together, this is one sleek and impressive outdoor driving machine, but even after a long day of fishing and enjoying the fresh-air, you could still luxuriously ride to the most sophisticated speakeasy in town.
